IMAGES OF AMERICA – DUMAS

Buy Now

I had a great time finding the pictures and writing about Dumas, Texas where we lived for forty-two years. Louis Dumas established the town in 1892. It got off to a good start, but because of draughts and blizzards and other adverse conditions during that period, it became a ghost town three times before strong, determined pioneers came to stay. They toughed it out, and Dumas is now a thriving city.

Some of the tough pioneers.

An old hotel in Dumas.

The water works.

The well on the county courthouse was Dumas' only water supply for almost 30 years.

The girls.

A 1920s girls basketball team in their very modest uniforms.
